Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide): Wide-Span Fork Crown
This wide forged aluminum motorcycle triple clamp is a fork crown for motorcycles and powersport vehicles. It has a wide body with large-diameter fork-tube bores at each end, a central steerer bore and multiple pockets and ribs on its surface. Wide clamps suit models with larger fork spacing and must remain stiff over a long span.
The triple clamp carries front-wheel impacts, braking and steering torque, with the arms between the fork bores and center bore as the main load path. Al Forge Tech (AFT) closed-die hot forges the clamp so grain flow runs continuously from the center bore to both fork bores, forming pockets and ribs during forging for stiffness and low weight. After heat treatment, the three bores and clamping slots are machined on 4.5-axis CNC and spacing and parallelism verified on CMM.
Key Features
- Wide body for large fork spacing, stiff across the span
- Pockets and ribs forged in for low weight
- Three bores machined on 4.5-axis CNC and CMM-measured
- Anodized or shot-blasted for appearance

Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) Manufacturing Process
- Drawing review and DFM: we confirm alloy, load direction and critical dimensions, then run QForm simulation to predict metal flow and defect risk.
- Die design and manufacturing: the number of die sets (for example, blocker and finisher dies) is planned around part complexity, and die contours are checked with a portable 3D scanner.
- Hot forging: closed-die forming on 600T–8,000T hot forging presses creates a continuous grain flow that follows the part contour.
- Heat treatment: T4 solution treatment and T6 artificial aging are performed in-house, with parameters set by alloy and strength requirement.
- CNC machining and finishing: holes, threads and mating surfaces are machined, followed by deburring, vibratory finishing, shot blasting or anodizing as required.
- Inspection and shipment: dimensions, hardness and chemical composition are verified with CMM, hardness testers and a spectrometer, with lot traceability kept under IATF 16949.
FAQ
What are the forging challenges of a wide triple clamp?
A wide clamp has a long span and thick fork-tube bosses at each end, so material must travel from the center to both ends. Poor distribution causes underfill at the outer edge of the bosses or laps in the arms. AFT plans billet and preform with QForm simulation, uses blocker and finisher dies, and refines the dies from experience to ensure both bosses fill completely.
How are cosmetic requirements handled on a motorcycle triple clamp?
The triple clamp sits in the rider's line of sight, so appearance matters as much as structure. AFT controls parting-line position and flash during forging, CNC-machines exposed faces after heat treatment, applies anodizing (including dyed colors) or shot blasting as required, and checks cosmetic consistency on first, middle and last pieces. Where a color code or cosmetic standard applies, we recommend confirming it with a color chip or sample at the sample stage.
How does a forged aluminum Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) compare with casting or machining from billet?
Forging shapes aluminum in the solid state under pressure, so the grain flow follows the part contour and the porosity and shrinkage common in castings are avoided. Compared with machining from solid billet, a near-net-shape forging removes less material and shortens machining time. For a Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) under repeated loads, forging balances strength and weight; the final choice still depends on design loads and volume.
Is heat treatment for the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) done in-house?
Yes. Al Forge Tech operates 8 T4 solution treatment units and 7 T6 artificial aging units on site, so the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) can be solution treated, quenched and aged in the same facility before machining and inspection. Keeping heat treatment in-house removes inter-plant transport, reduces lead-time risk and keeps lot traceability within one quality system. Parameters are set according to the alloy grade and your specification.
How do you keep the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) consistent from lot to lot?
Al Forge Tech runs incoming (IQC), in-process (IPQC) and final (FQC) inspection under IATF 16949:2016, supported by 4 Zeiss CMMs, hardness testers, a spectrometer and a fluorescent penetrant inspection line. First, middle and last pieces of every lot are checked against the die; when wear causes dimensional drift, the die is reworked to keep the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Triple Clamp (Wide) stable across lots.
